Pets Are Allowed! by Shawna M.

Sally went on a field trip to the zoo with her classmates.  They saw rabbits, dogs, lizards, monkeys, and so on.  When Sally came home, she asked her parents if she could have a pet, the answer was negative.  Sally stated that pets make people feel more ecstatic, improve health benefits, and they make people less prone to allergies or asthma. Clearly, families should have pets in their households.

Do you have children who you long to make happy?  If so, you can get them a pet of their dreams! Family Pets can help you or your children experience low blood pressure and or better cognitive/communication gains.  When you play with your pet they can increase the levels of serotonin and dopamine in your brain (Dolmage).  Serotonin and dopamine are chemicals that make people feel happier.

Need a friend that will make you happy by improving your health benefits? If so, get a pet. Not only do pets make you happy, they also lower high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides (cholesterol and triglycerides up your risk of heart disease). Your furry friends also keep you up and moving! A study by NIH showed that people who took their dogs out regularly had more physical stamina (Humana).

A-choo!! Do you have allergies like me? If you do... get a pet!  Pets make you less prone to allergies by 33%.  Pets do this by improving your immune system and decreasing the allergens in your body (Mccandless).

Some argue that pets cost way too much.  However, if people take good care of them, money won't be much of a problem.  For example, not taking care of a home pet can lead to taking them to the vet! This situation is like buying really expensive stuff for your wants or needs.  If people don't get a pet, they will miss out on being way more healthy. Additionally, people might experience loneliness some point in their lives.  Clearly people need pets in their households.

Chores and Housework
By Ava Leilani S.

Thomas Jefferson once said "All men are created equal; they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Splitting up chores among the household members is just another way of implying equal human rights.  It is necessary to split up housework if you want better relationships with the people in your house. Having too much to do will make you tired and result in only realizing the negatives in your life. Having too much work will also result in having high levels of stress.

Researchers have found that "Laundry, cleaning, childcare, monitoring playdates, and buying groceries" can help you with your marriages and relationships with your family. And during my research I found the same evidence in various cities (Berlatsky).

One mom, was tired of doing all the dirty work and decided to do something about it.  She was tired of doing chore after chore, of her kids fighting every five minutes, and of her husband coming back home crabby and short tempered. This mother was Elizabeth Monier- Williams a marketing digital culture analysis.   She found that splitting up housework benefited her family. Splitting up housework will not only help you with your relationships but will also reduce stress levels.  Splitting up housework among household members will ultimately lower your stress levels a lot! It will also clear up time for you, so you can have more me time and more family time (Kristine Lockwood).

Some argue that children are too young to be doing chores and should be playing outside. But when children do chores they gain a certain responsibility that will help them when they get older. If they learn how to take responsibility of housework when they are still young, when they get older they will apply this to their own houses and routines.  And besides that, kids don't play outside all the time, they would rather go on their devices, therefore not being active and just zoning out.

If you don't split housework and chores among the people in the household, you'll develop bad relationships.  When you split up housework and chores everyone will reduce their stress levels and will have more free time to themselves and their families.  Chores should be divided among the people per household in order to maintain stable relationships and a healthy way of living.

This World Called Technology by Kaiyana T.

One day Jake was texting while walking across the street.  He did not notice the car that was about to turn right around the corner and suddenly, BOOM! The car hit the pole and was halfway off the corner ledge, and could you believe it, Jake just walked away on his phone again. The car may not have hurt him, but his phone sure did. You see technology causes you to focus more on a screen rather than what you are doing or the work you need to do.  Technology is also very addicting, which can distract you just like it did to Jake.  Technology can also cause obesity, like when you're on it too long instead of actually being active.

We all have those "I'm gonna check my phone just for second" moments and the next thing you know an hour has passed by already! Well, that's what technology can do; it makes you want to go on it and then it draws you away from your work.  We often have the ability to control our own social networking sites, which most of the time draws us in, as said in a recent article (Thorpe).  Just like Jake, we can be negatively impacted by technology by paying more attention to it rather than what we have to do or learn.

What can happen to us when paying so much attention to technology?  We get addicted that's what! "55% of the respondents noted their before-bed TV sessions were costing them up to three hours of sleep per night" (Yovino).  This kind of behavior also impacts one's actions a job.  The bright light of your device while your staying up on it, is bad for you because it affects the secretion of melatonin, which is a hormone that is needed for equal amounts of sleep time.  Therefore, it is not so good being addicted to something other than food huh!

Obesity, it spreads so fast and technology plays a big part in that. Studies prove that people who use technology less are more likely to live happier and healthier than those who use it more.  In an article, it states, "We use more technology, we exercise less" (Deloatch).  This is important to remember the next time you take a "couple seconds" to check your phone!  Technology is always gonna make a difference, but it's our choice on what kind of difference we want it to make.

Other people argue that "well technology can help us have a better education."  However, there are many other resources that can help us to learn! There are always books, people you can talk to, places you can go, and those are just some of the resources we have.  Trust me if our kupuna could live without technology, then we can too.

If you do stay on technology for too long you won't be able to sleep very well, and who doesn't want good sleep? Staying up super late, sitting on the couch for too long, and it's all for technology. That's what causes you to be obese. You could possibly get injured too. For example, if you text or look at something like Facebook while driving and you are not paying attention to what you are doing, then you could crash or worse! Those are just some reasons that technology is bad for you. Technology can be a useful servant but a dangerous master (Christian Lous Lange).  Don't let your technology be your master!

Limit Technology and Spend More Time with Your Family
By Tehya T.

According to research, 51% of moms feel that technology is a distraction to families (Orlando). Clearly, moms want to spend more time with their families.  How can families connect if everyone is always on a device? Technology is very effective, and that is why we find ourselves using it more and more. However, technology takes family time away, results in less communication face to face, and it changes our moods and how we treat and act to our family.  By limiting technology, families will be able to spend more time together.

First of all, technology takes away family time.  Technology is very easy to get a hold of and it can easily distract people.  For example, family dinners are no longer the same as they were years ago. Families used to talk about their day and what happened at school or work. However, today families might not even have dinner together because of technology. "Our fixation with technology has created new routines that are very different from traditional notions of family time" (Orlando). Technology can also distract parents with work. Things like, phone calls and or work on the computer can easily take up to more than half of your day. "Remember that technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master." - Christian Lous Lange.  Today parents are too busy working rather than spending time with their families.

Second, technology causes families to communicate less.  Technology can isolate children and adults. Technology is growing with new apps, videos, and games.  Everyday people are interacting face to face less and less.  There are numerous articles written about this topic.  One article states, "...children's absorption in technology, from texting to playing video games, does by there limit their availability to communicate with their parents" (Taylor). With most adults having to work with computers or phones, they sometimes get caught up in their phones or computers, and sometimes it may not even be for work.  Situations like the following, "As it turned out, mom was so engrossed with an online conversation on her mobile that she didn't even notice her young son calling out for attention" (Orlando), are becoming more and more common. Once in awhile families should disconnect and communicate.

Lastly, technology changes our moods and how we treat our families. Say that someone posted something on Instagram and got mean comments. Someone would probably feel sad, mad, or even hurt.  As a result, he or she would most likely treat their family meanly.  Or, the opposite situation could happen.  For example, a person could post something and get likes and nice comments. This would most likely result treating his or her family with respect and a feeling of happiness. A recent study showed that "when we are feeling blue we use social media sites, such as Facebook, to find friends that are also having a bad day, suffered a setback or going through a tough time in their lives" (Steakley).  Therefore, be aware of the things that you are doing online because that could affect your mood.

Some people argue that technology does not cause families to communicate less face to face. However, when families are in their living rooms together and everyone is on their phones or watching tv, there is not too much talking. Everyone is so focused on what they are doing or what they are watching, that they are not talking or communicating with each other.  This is why technology does cause families to communicate less.

If families don't limit their use of technology, they may miss out on family moments or activities. Additionally, they may not communicate with each other and miss out on special events or occasions. Do families really want this to happen? So, people need to limit the technology and spend more family time together.

Families Should Purchase Treadmills - Anonymous

I know how to  lose weight, if you want to lose weight you should get a treadmill. Treadmills are very helpful if people want to get fit.  It can make people exercise more.  So what I am trying to say is that treadmills could be a big part of your life, (in an exercising way).  So, hopefully you choose to exercise because you will start to feel better, be fit, and even look better than ever.

From exercising you will feel better.  You will feel better because your body will react to your health, and your mind will react to your health, so you will feel better. I have experienced this so you should trust me.

Exercising will make you look fit/better.  It will make you look better because you are getting skinny and stronger as you exercise. So the benefit of exercising is that you also look better.

When you exercise you start to get fit.  So when you exercise you get stronger and your appearance will look better along with feeling stronger.  So if you stay fit and keep exercising, then you can feel awesome

Some argue that treadmills are too big or take up too much room in a house.  However, treadmills can make people skinny and strengthen legs. For example, a boy named Chris exercised every day and his legs got a lot stronger, he could run a mile in 8 minutes instead of 9.  This example shows how much he changed.  He also got a lot skinnier from just running on a treadmill.

If   people donʻt exercise, they will miss feeling their best, and people might become overweight to the point that they can't even walk any more.  Clearly they will miss out on the benefits of working out.  Or, they may even have a  hard time breathing. Clearly people need to exercise more.

Give Older Siblings Chores by Briana G.

Sally is sitting in her room trying to do her homework but all of a sudden her mom walks in and says, “Are your chores done yet?”
Sally replies “No , why do I have to do all the chores, tell Shawna to do it. She's older!”
Unlike others, Sally never has time for homework because of chores…… but do you know who does? Her sister Shawna.
New research has shown that older siblings gain skills by doing chores: perseverance, self-discipline, and tolerance for frustration. Chores increase self-esteem, sense of belonging, and teaches them organization and cleanliness. Lastly, kids who do chores have better attitudes towards chores in the future and a better work ethic. Therefore, older siblings should have more chores than younger siblings.
It is well known that younger siblings shouldn't have more chores than older siblings. Here's why, new research has shown that older siblings gain skills by doing chores: Perseverance, self-discipline, and frustration tolerance. These skills help children to build good work ethic. Work ethic is learned. Most of the time older siblings will say that it’s  unfair, but our parents know what they are doing they do it for your own good and for your learning (Peters).
There are many ways that a child could get out of doing chores. But study after study has shown that chores increase many things such as: self-esteem, sense of belonging, and it teaches organization and cleanliness. Chores also help with gross-motor and fine motor skills. Other skills that are created are gratification and self-confidence. Those skills help kids to follow through on things (Cardinal).
Chores are never fun am I right? But we all have them. At one point in our lives they are never escapable. Here are some tips that will make chores easier for you and your child. First, make sure that your attitude is good because they will reflect on how you feel about chores or housework. Second, you should not give rewards if the work is not completed or you feel that the work is not done to the fullest of their ability. A reward for chores should not be present (Parker).

Some parents will say that more chores for an older sibling is unfair or the older sibling will assume that younger children are being favored. However, the key to chores is that you need to give more chores to your older child rather than your younger child. For example, it teaches them organization and cleanliness. But, a parent shouldn’t just overload an older child they should just monitor it so that they will always have a good amount without overloading any one person.

If parents don’t give their older children more chores then they will miss out on boosting older children's self-esteem and self-confidence. Additionally, People might experience frustration when it comes to tolerance, not feel a sense of belonging, and struggle with perseverance. Obviously, older siblings should always have more chores than younger siblings. Not always do they need way more, but instead, they need just the right amount.

Having a Pool of Your Own by Journey L.

In Hawaii we go to this wonderful place that all families go. Parents go directly from breakfast to a beach chair by a pool to watch their children swim with cousins. One of them swims to get fit, and the other swims whenever he is stressed out. The pool helps us enjoy family time. Having a pool is a good thing for adults to get for their family.

Having a swimming pool is good for spending time as a family. It lets kids get off their devices and lets them play outside. It is also good to have a pool because you can have a pool party with family members you haven't seen in a long time. It also lets people enjoy each other outside instead of staying in the house all day because itʻs good to be out of the house.

Besides having family time it gives you a workout. Swimming in a swimming pool for a long time consistently can give you good cardio. It will also let you stay home to get a workout instead of always going to the gym. It is also good for your aerobic workout.

Another reason is swimming in a pool makes people less stressed out. “If you are having a bad day and you jump into a pool and swim it will change your mood change” (Logan). When itʻs a hot day and you are bored in your house you can always jump in the pool to cool off.

Yes, pools are expensive to buy to get a workout. However, itʻs better than needing to pay and drive to the gym. Swimming in a pool is better for your cardio than the gym.  But it dosenʻt mean stop going to the gym to get fit. This is also true for pools.

If people do not get a pool they will miss out on things like family time. People will also miss an opportunity to get fit. It can also be an opportunity for people to have time away from stress. But you can still go to the gym and workout. That is why it's good for people to get pools for their homes.
